MARKET OF CITRUSES IN EE.UU.

EE.UU. he is one of the main consumers of citruses in the world, its market moves annually between 2,5 and 3 million TM, and although great part of the supply is made up mainly of local production, their imports have gained importance in the last years. Indeed, the purchases of fresh citruses of the thousands outside have happened of 83 TM in 1990 to more than 350 thousands TM at the present time, with which its participation within the American consumption happened to represent of 3,4% more than 13% in this period.

In terms per capita, the consumption of citruses in fresh state borders the 10 annual kilograms, whereas in processings it ascends to 35 kilograms, this last basically juice.

The “Da Vinci Code" passes $400 million


LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Da Vinci Code" led the list for a third weekend, as its total raced to $410 million

The film version of Dan Brown's best- seller will "in the next couple of days" surpass 2004's "Spider-Man 2" ($410.5 million) to become the biggest international hit.

"Da Vinci" earned $52 million over the weekend. It was No. 1 in Japan, Italy, Germany, Spain and six other European countries, as well as Argentina and New Zealand. Coming in a second place -"X-Men: The Last Stand," which earned $33.5 million.

"Poseidon" earned an estimated $22.9 million, taking its international total to $34.1 million. The biggest new "Poseidon" markets were South Korea.

"Mission: Impossible III” grossed an estimated $6.6 million; taking its international total to $193.9 million. The biggest markets were Japan, China and India.

Peru Negro Presents Two Shows in Chicago


The Peruvinan Dance Group “Peru Negro” will perform two concerts at Chicago's HotHouse. The tickets are: $25 in Advance, $30 at the door, (All Ages). The late show will be July 5 at 8:00pm.

This show will present our typical musical instruments. They represent a period of the Spanish colonizers when the Afro-Peruvian music wouldn't have developed its distinctive sound. The caj?n is a wooden box played for a little box by hand. The other sound is the quijada de burro (dried-out donkey jawbone).

This ensemble founded by Ronaldo Campos de la Colina to preserve Peru's African heritage 30 years ago, became a national treasure in the international environment.

In the beginning, “Peru Negro” comprised 12 family members. Now more than 30 people are involved and they run their own school and junior troupe, Peru Negrito. Peru Negro has performed all over the world and has been appointed as "Ambassadors of Peruvian Culture" by the government.

Their latest album, Sangre de un Don, whose title means "Heritage of a Gentleman," is dedicated to founding member Ronaldo Campos de la Colina, who passed away in 2001.

Ecuador: Ten Thousand Protest Trade Pact

Almost 10,000 people from throughout Ecuador gathered in the capital, Quito, to demand that President Alfredo Palacio not sign a Free Trade Treaty (TLC) with the US.
The protesters are also demanding that the government cancel its contract with the US oil company Occidental (Oxy), and to end its cooperation with "Plan Colombia,” a military program which is intensifying the war in Colombia.
The actions in Quito, organized by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), started with a march by more than 3,000 indigenous people. The protesters gathered in Quito are from the provinces of Chimborazo, Imbabura, Esmeraldas, Guayas, Pichincha (Cayambe), Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Bolivar.
The police attacked the crowd, including two children who were badly affected by tear gas.
CONAIE plans to step up the nationwide mobilization against the TLC. They demand a referendum to know what the citizens think about this agreement.
Nearly 10,000 indigenous people and supporters marched again in Quito, some heading to the National Congress, others to the Plaza de la Independencia. Some indigenous people began to return to their communities, while others remained in Quito to await a response from the government.
Indigenous activists continue blockading highways in the southern Ecuador an provinces of Canar and Azuay, and the roads linking Pichincha and Esmeraldas in this mobilization against the TLC.

Garcia proclaims his victory



LIMA, Peru -- Former Peruvian president Alan
Garcia return after 16 years.
With nearly 84 percent of the ballots counted, Garcia gets 54.7 percent of the vote to 45.3 percent for Ollanta Humala, according to results from the National Electoral Process Office.
Peruvian citizens said that the reason of voting for Garcia was because the have not choice – Garcia in one side and Humala, a leftist former coup leader who wants to follows the steps of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, in the other.
Interior Minister Romulo Pizarro said the election has gone well, despite earlier minor incidents. This second election has included street.
In the final days of campaigning, election observers from the Organization of American States requests to both candidates to avoid violence.
Humala, a retired military man like Chavez and Garcia, 57, who called Chavez "a dictator with a big wallet." Chavez answers in turn have called Garcia "a genuine thief, a demagogue."

Citrus fruit exportations to the United States will grow by 30%


Prompex’s president Jose Alejandro Gonzalez suggests shipments of the fruit to US markets may begin in 10 days

The President of Procitrus estimated that exports of Peruvian citrus fruit will grow between 25% and 30% in 2006, due to the opening of the American market and the consolidation of the shipments to the European plaza.

The lifting of the phytosanitary restrictions by The United States will permit the producers to export varieties that can not be found in Europe (lemons, orange and different varieties of tangerine and tangelo). "The American market opens a great opportunity to export new varieties of citrus”

He also said that in July, the first shipment of Peruvian citrus fruit to the United States complying all the phytosanitary requirements the American country requests. Likewise , this industry is only authorized to export from orchards which have been supervised and registered by the Senasa.

He said that the exporters should take advantage of this opportunity, and that should avoid same mistakes that were made in the past.
